Artificial Intelligence Adds To A Digital World

By: Subha Ali

What Is Artificial Intelligence

(AI)?

Artificial Intelligence started over 60 years ago but has recently become popular. The basic definition of AI is a computer system that can perform tasks that usually require a human brain, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, translation between languages, answering questions, etc.

AI has been developing and is constantly changing with the ability to do more each time it's developed. It can now perceive its environment and deal with what is perceived by solving problems and achieving a specific goal.

Artificial Intelligence is now placed into many platforms and is used without even knowing it; it is starting to become a part of daily life with harmful and positive impacts.

What Are The Different

AI Platforms?

There are countless Artificial Intelligence platforms, some for similar general tasks and others for specific tasks. The possibilities are constantly evolving with AI, and AI is used in almost every corner you look at.

This list could go on forever, but here is a breakdown of some of the main different types of AI platforms and what they are used for:

1. AI In E-Commerce

This is applied through recommendation engines when a company or platform

recommends things based on your preference and browsing history. Another example is the shopping assistant; when shopping online and you can chat on the website, some chatbots reply to you and are made to sound as human-like as possible.

2. AI In Online Shopping

Like e-commerce, companies use AI when you shop online by predicting purchases, gathering data, and creating a customer-centric shopping experience.

3. AI In Healthcare

In healthcare, AI detects diseases, identifies cancer cells, and analyzes chronic conditions and medical data.

4. AI In Social Media

AI is used in most social media platforms to translate different languages, suggest posts, remove hateful content, etc.

5. AI In Navigation

Navigation systems can detect the number of lanes, what lane you need to be in, whether there was an accident, etc. This is all done through a combination of networks.

6. Self-driving Cars

This is one of the more popularized examples of AI technology; self-driving cars use cameras, radars, cloud services, GPS, and signals to run the vehicle. In cars that are not self-driving, AI is still used in ways such as emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and assisted steering.

7. AI In Education

One resource teachers use AI for is to grade, create discussions, send replies, manage, create guides and content, etc. There is also access to websites that can do math homework, answer teacher questions, write essays, etc.

8. AI In Lifestyle

Things like your email have an AI bot that goes through spam mail and sends it to your spam folder. Facial recognition to unlock your devices is another example of artificial intelligence technology. Another example is any form of recommendation, such as when you are recommended videos on YouTube, done through an AI application.

9. Chatbots

Chatbots are live chats a person can talk to; they contain a database of answers and are continuously improving. It can resolve issues, respond to questions, provide support, etc.

10. AI In Travel

Traffic management creates regulations and promotes road safety through AI technology. Ride-sharing uses AI to connect riders and drivers, improving communication and anticipating supply and demand. AI can route plan and is done through predictive analytics.

11. AI Smart Assistant

The most common example of an AI assistant is Siri, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home; if you've told anyone to do a task or to answer a question, you have engaged with an AI assistant. AI assistants are incorporated into devices you use daily.

12. AI In Shopping

Stores like Amazon grocery, where you can put items in your cart and are automatically added to your account, and when you walk out, your card is charged. The AI technology creates a virtual shopping cart. It can track items and check them out without the customer having any interaction.

13. AI Websites For Work

Multiple websites can benefit work life; these AI websites can build websites, create blog posts, create content, create presentations, create professional-looking pictures, and develop a brand's identity.

14. AI Websites For Personal Assistants

Aside from AI technology incorporated into your phone, laptop, and home gadgets, other websites can also be used as personal assistants. AI technology can create information summaries through a browser extension in Chrome or Safari. There is also the software ChatGPT, which is the most popular AI tool; you can type messages to the bot, and it develops intelligent responses using natural language. Many other websites can do similar tasks.

15. AI Websites For Creativity

There are AI websites where you can create things such as t-shirts, images, royalty-free music, creating art through prompts, etc.

How Is Artificial Intelligence Affecting

Employment & Education?

AI can benefit many industries, such as creating products and providing help. There is not one answer to how jobs will be affected, but most likely, most jobs will be affected in some way, not necessarily at the same rate. AI can also lead to job loss, especially those jobs that can be replaced with chatbots or when AI can quickly do research or get work done.

AI has already made its way into many sectors, such as publications, HR departments, the insurance industry, etc. AI will continue to grow and has the potential to create more efficient jobs while also making specific jobs unnecessary.

From an academic perspective, similar to how AI affects jobs, there are positives and negatives to using AI in education. AI can be an excellent resource for students and teachers as an educational tool and can also improve personalized learning experiences for students. However, these tools are also accessible to students who may use them to do their work for them instead of doing it themselves, which can impact their learning and raises the question of cheating and plagiarism.

Conclusion

Technology is constantly evolving and can be hard to keep up with. Artificial Intelligence is one of those aspects that will continue to grow and change. However, it can be an extremely beneficial tool for many people in many circumstances. It can also be an opportunity to get creative and use the many platforms of AI to your advantage.
